Zions Bank Honors Employees for Outstanding Service

Excellence and Roy W. Simmons Community Service Awards announced at annual celebration.

Zions Bank’s annual Service Awards banquet celebrates extraordinary employees by honoring them with an “Excellence… It Starts With Me” Award and also recognizes one employee’s commitment to community service with the “Roy W. Simmons Community Service Award.”

This year’s ceremony on Aug. 24 honored 13 total employees. The award winners were nominated by their peers and selected by executive management. They exemplify professionalism and dedication through their work style, and they accomplish Zions’ goal to create value through their everyday acts and responsibilities.

In addition, 303 employees were honored for years of service milestones.

2023 Roy W. Simmons Community Service Award

Zions Bank’s 2023 Roy W. Simmons Community Service Award recipient is Harris Simmons, chairman and CEO of Zions Bancorporation and son of former chairman Roy W. Simmons, for whom the award is named.

Simmons has a long history of giving back to his community. In 1985, he co-chaired an effort that raised funds to create Salt Lake’s first permanent homeless shelter. Nearly four decades later, he continues to serve as president and board chair of Shelter the Homeless.

In 1991, he created the annual “Paint-a-Thon” service project, which brings employees together to paint the homes, community centers and nonprofit organizations in their local areas across Idaho, Utah and Wyoming.

Simmons is past chairman of the American Bankers Association and the Utah Board of Higher Education.

Like his father, Simmons has never approached service motivated by accolades, but he has nonetheless been honored for his contributions over the years, including as the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce’s Giant in Our City, and with the Days of ’47 Pioneers of Progress Award.
